QANTAS SINGAPORE FIRST CLASS LOUNGE

In 2011, Sumu Design, in a joint venture with PDM International, won the contract as executive designers to deliver the Qantas First Class lounge in Singapore, working in association with Marc Newson Limited and Sebastien Segers and beating 6 other international design firms in the process.
The lounge was to be located in old Qantas / British Airways First Class lounge, approximately 1700sqm, based on the same model of the Sydney First Class Lounge and similar design language.
As the executive designers and lead consultants for this project, Sumu + PDM spent 10 months, working closely with the MNL team. Developing the concept design and establishing the design details for the Singapore project and the standard detail design to be implemented for the Hong Kong and Los Angeles project.
In late 2012 the project was cancelled with the announcement of the Qantas and Emirates alliance and with Qantas redirecting First Class lights through Dubai and instead of Singapore. Although it was disappointing to not have completed the project after taking it all the way to construction tender, it was a pleasure to once again work on a Marc Newson / Sebastien Segers project.
